Sunday Morning Sermon Series: “The Word of Revelation” part 4
Because every word that comes from the mouth of God is true, righteous, and beautiful, He need not make a vow. What is interesting is that when it comes to our salvation, He actually did “swear” so to speak (see Heb. 6:13-14). And the author of Hebrews pointed out the obvious, namely, that when God swears, He can do so only by Himself because only He is trustworthy. Therefore, the covenants God made with man are as good as His Word which is as true as His character. The Covenants of God (not unlike the promises from His Prophets) are not only a revelatory promise of His character and desires, but serve as revelatory proof of His power to fulfill such covenants. Hence His Word of the Covenants are His “sworn” promises as well as His commands regarding our assured salvation.
